The Uncharted Series: Which One Takes the Cake?

There is no doubt that the Uncharted series is one of the best games created by Naughty Dog. Just imagine that Indiana Jones meets National Treasure and you have the culmination of what is known as Uncharted.

The game is about a young treasure hunter, Nathan “Nate” Drake, with a keen interest in history who goes looking for lost treasures along with his mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan. He also believes himself to be a descendant of Francis Drake, a historically famous explorer, who was also on the hunt for treasure like Nate himself.

Today, I thought I’d reminisce and rank my favorite Uncharted games. Being an avid fan, I’ve played (nearly) all the games. So, make sure you read till the end and see whether you agree with my views or not.

Let’s get started!

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 will always be my #1 Uncharted game of all time. Imagine a game being so good that it inspires the train sequence in the latest Mission Impossible movie. It relies heavily on the “honor among thieves” code, with back-to-back deception at every turn of the game.

This game is about the search for the lost treasure of Shambhala, which Nate had been tracking for a while. It also takes you to various locations such as Turkey, Nepal, and Tibet. Towards the end of the game, you are met with a surprising element (which I won’t spoil), so make sure that you prepare yourself for a lot of gunplay beforehand.

I’ll also have to add that my favorite antagonist, Zoran Lazarevic, is also from Uncharted 2. He is the most menacing villain in the entire series, and was as intimidating as a “bad guy” should be.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 was supposed to be the end of Nate’s story as he is now focused more on a normal life with his now-wife Elena Fisher. However, he is quickly pulled back into the thieving life when his presumed-dead brother, Samuel “Sam” Drake, returns and asks him to look for the treasure their mother had been tracking before she passed.

This was the first Uncharted game that was released on the PlayStation 4. I’ll have to say that the game was WAY ahead of its time; it was the one that compelled me to get a PS4 in the first place.

The graphics were immaculate, the physics were amazing, and everything about the game was as captivating as it could possibly be. Let me tell you that the game is so good that I’ve finished it 12 times! I still boot it up today when I can’t find anything else to play.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Uncharted 3 might not have been very good but it was definitely the sort that had me glued to my PlayStation 3 when it came out. The game explored the past between Nate and Sully, and how the two of them met in the first place.

Nate was a “street rat” who made a living by pickpocketing people. It also shows how Nate got a hold of Sir Francis Drake’s ring. Seeing Nate’s talents, Sully takes him under his wing and teaches him everything that he needs to know about becoming a good treasure hunter.

The game cycles between the present and the past, highlighting Nate and Sully’s journey through the years. This game explores the Iram of the Pillars in the Arabian Peninsula, which is said to house tons of treasure. Much like its predecessors, Uncharted 3 has a surprising element towards the end too, so make sure that you brace yourself.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

This was the game that started it all. It was the one to reveal that Nate was Sir Francis Drake’s descendant. At the start, Nate looks for and defiles Sir Francis Drake’s coffin, where he finds notes on the Lost City of El Dorado. So, Nate’s purpose in the first game is to search for the lost city, since it was a part of Drake’s expedition.

Nate does find the city of El Dorado, but it isn’t exactly what he expected it to be. You’ll have to play the game to see what Nate finds in the end and how he narrowly escapes the city along with Sully.

Though the graphics aren’t as savvy as you would want them to be, you can download Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on the PlayStation 4 or 5.

This collection includes all the remasters of all the Uncharted games, so make sure you don’t miss out. The file is going to be a hefty one, so make sure you use a superfast connection such as Xfinity Internet for it. Be sure to look into Xfinity Internet deals for a discounted price!

Uncharted is the kind of series that no gamer should ever miss out on. You’ve probably watched the movie, but the games are on another level. So, if you’re a gamer and you haven’t played the series yet, make sure you do as soon as you can!
